Bold and Bright Tie Crochet
Easy Crochet Pattern for Beginners
Greetings and hello from Rena's Thread Crafts, my crafty friends! I’m Rena, the owner of RTC.
I'm thrilled to present to you today a brand new crochet pattern I designed and tested by Elisa, the creator and designer of Strings and Cuddles. It’s called the Bold and Bright Tie. This crochet pattern is ideal for a quick project for that special someone in your life, regardless of experience level.
This Bold and Bright Tie Crochet pattern came from the idea that I wanted to create a unique gift as a crocheter. I figured, why not a crochet necktie? It’s not that popular or the most heavily searched crochet gift compared to others such as crochet amigurumi, crochet blankets or crochet dresses. So I messaged Elisa and asked her if she could help me test the pattern for a crochet necktie and she said yes! If you’re looking for a creative gift idea to surprise your friends, this crochet necktie is the perfect choice for you especially if you’re a beginner crocheter.
I used scrap DK worsted weight cotton yarn (size 3) that is around 100 yards, and if you are using our DK cotton yarn this weighs about 60 grams. I also used a 4.0 mm hook for this craft project.
Without further ado, here’s how to make your own crochet necktie!
Materials Needed
Yarn: Cotton DK (Light Worsted Weight) (size 3), approximately 100 yards
Hook: 4mm (or size to obtain gauge)
Notions: tape measure, tapestry needle, stitch marker
Abbreviations | US Terminology
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
dc2tog: double crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
st(s): stitch(es)
RS: right side
WS: wrong side
Special Stitches:
STDC - Stacked Double Crochet
Instructions for Stacked Double Crochet (STDC):
Step 1: Insert your hook into the stitch where you would normally make your double crochet.
Step 2: Yarn over and pull up a loop. You now have two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through to two loops, like you are making a single crochet.
Step 3: Without yarning over, insert your hook into the front loop of the sc
Step 4: Yarn over and pull through this loop. You have two loops on your hook.
Step 5: Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.
This completes one stacked double crochet (STDC), which effectively replaces the traditional starting chain and provides a more even edge in your crochet work.
Gauge:
- 10 dc x 5 rows = 2 inches. Check your gauge to ensure the final product matches the intended size.
Size:
- Finished Size: 55.5 Inches Long (unblock and unstretched)
Notes:
1.Read the pattern carefully.
2.Pattern construction is best for variegated, and solid color yarn. Cotton yarn is best to use as it has some weight and you can skip blocking.
3.Instead of chain 3, we used a Stacking Double Crochet which counts as 1 stitch.
4.(#) : number of total stitches or rows
5.You are welcome to incorporate any ideas you may have, like embellishments or a change of color. (For example, Pins)

First, (with the WS facing out and without stretching) measure the tie 12 inches from the starting row, and attach your yarn by doing a surface slip stitch into the 3rd dc. Ch 8, skip 6 sts, sl st into the 3rd dc from the last.
Next, work a STDC, take off your hook, and insert it into the dc from the next row (3rd dc), and work a surface sl st, dc in the next 7 chains, and sl st into the dc from the next row (3rd dc from the last). (8 sts)

BONUS TIP: How to Pair Your Bold and Bright Crochet Tie With Your Outfit
The Bold and Bright Tie is a cool crochet accessory that can add a splash of color and personality to any outfit. Here are some creative ways to style this unique crochet necktie for both men and women, along with tips on events where you can wear it.
Styling Tips for Men
Casual Look
- With a Denim Shirt: Pair your Bold and Bright Tie with a classic dark denim shirt for a laid-back, yet stylish appearance. The denim’s simplicity will allow the tie’s colors to pop, making it the centerpiece of your outfit.
- Chinos or Jeans: Opt for chinos or jeans in neutral tones like beige, navy, or black. This combination keeps the look casual while ensuring the crochet necktie remains the focal point of your outfit.
Business Casual
- Button-Up Shirts: Wear the tie with a crisp white or light-colored button-up shirt. This style is perfect for a business casual environment where you want to show a bit of personality while maintaining professionalism.
- Blazers: Add a blazer in a solid neutral color, such as grey or cream, to enhance the outfit. The blazer adds structure, while the crochet tie injects a touch of creativity and fun.
Formal Occasions
- Suit and Tie: For a formal look, pair the tie with a light colored suit. A white or beige suit works best as it provides a neutral backdrop that allows the tie’s colors to stand out without clashing.
- Pocket Squares: Coordinate with a pocket square in a complementary color. This adds a polished finish to your look and shows attention to detail.

Styling Tips for Women
Smart Casual
- Blouses: Pair the handcrafted necktie with a simple blouse in a solid color, preferably lighter shades like white. The crochet necktie acts as a statement piece, drawing attention to your neckline and adding a pop of color to your outfit.
- Skirts or Trousers: Choose skirts or trousers in neutral tones to come with your handmade necktie as bold colors can clash with your necktie instead of complementing it. High-waisted styles can be particularly flattering in creating a chic and balanced look.
Layering with Dresses
- Shirt Dresses: Tie the Bold and Bright Tie around the collar of a shirt dress for a unique twist. This adds a touch of artistic elegance and can make a simple dress look more sophisticated.
- Sweater Dresses: Layer the crochet tie over a sweater dress for a cozy yet stylish appearance. This is perfect for cooler weather, providing warmth while still looking fashionable.
Boho Chic
- Flowy Tops: Wear the crochet necktie with a flowy, bohemian top that is in light shades. This combination creates a relaxed, free-spirited vibe that’s perfect for casual outings or festivals.
- Accessories: Add other colorful accessories like bangles or earrings to complement the crochet tie. This cohesive look is fun and playful, ideal for showcasing your creative side.
